FAQs about the Vet Summer Camp
FAQs about our one-of-a-kind vet summer camp
Do you have any Q+A sessions on Zoom?
Yes we do! Please put your name and email in our contact us form, found HERE, to be sent the links to the zoom meetings. The schedule of the calls is:
What kind of students come to this program?
The one thing that unites our students is their love of animals. That love creates a natural bond. Our staff train very hard to make sure to reach each and every student… especially the shy students, the first time -sleepaway kids, and the experienced returning students.
What is most important to say is, VetSummer is the place where students can finally be surrounded by their people. Kids who are into the same things, who have similar outlooks on life, and they all love animals. For many of our students, VetSummer represents their best shot at developing a whole new set of like-minded friends cut from the same cloth!
How long has VetSummer been around?
This is our 3rd summer operating VetSummer. We have run summer programs for 20+ years so this program is built from our experience. We started VetSummer coming out of the pandemic because we saw the difference pet ownership made with our own children.
What if my student doesn't know if they want to become a vet? Can they still attend?
All that is required to attend our program is a love of animals and a desire to learn more. That’s it. Some of our kids are positive they want to be a DVM. Some want to be a MD and see this as a step on the path. Others want something cool for their college applications. Whatever your reason… we’ve got the place!
What are you doing about COVID? Is the vaccine required?
CAMP OPERATIONS: We are parents too. Safety is our first concern. We will follow all requirements, guidelines, rules etc. as issued by the CDC and state and local authorities. We are constantly re-evaluating the safety and viability of our program and we do whatever is necessary to ensure the safety of students and staff.
VACCINATION: Required for all students and staff.
What is the difference between locations? Is one better than the other?
Academically the programs are the same, with the same proprietary curriculum. What changes is the campus, and the field trip destinations. Our campuses feature lots of green space and places to explore, plus student centers and social areas. NYC may take a field trip to the Bronx Zoo; Trinity -Washington may takes a field trip to the Smithsonian National Zoo. So the spirit and context are the same; pick the campus that feels right for you!
Who will my roommate be? What is my room like? Is the dorm nice?
Yes the dorms are nice! Students live in doubles (with a bed, desk and closet) with their roommate. Everything is air-conditioned, and each location have social spaces, hang-out spots, media lounges, couches etc. All vet summer camp students get to experience life on a college campus, just as the college kids do. The halls are divided by gender, and the staff including the Health Director and Camp Director live in the dorm as well. It just may be the very best part of the whole program!
Is the program safe? Are there chaperones? Do you do background checks?
Some of the staff are parents too, so we get it: student safety is our number one concern. Fully trained and background-checked staff are the life of the program and we work very hard to build a vibrant, talented, future-focused team at every location! We are out to create a safe experience for our students.
I’m flying to camp; can someone pick me up?
Yes! We offer airport pickup! A fee will apply for vet summer camp students; we have been doing this a long time and communicate directly with parents to make arrangements.
NYC: We offer pick-up/drop-off service from both JFK and LGA (LaGuardia) airports.
WASHINGTON DC: We offer pick-up/drop-off at both Reagan (DCA) and Dulles International (IAD) Airports
DENVER: We offer pick-up/drop-off service from Denver International (DEN) airport.
Can I bring my cell phone or laptop?
Cell phones are kept with the student at all times. They are not allowed to be used in class (except for taking cute pictures!). They are discouraged in the evenings, when we have planned camp activities (which are super fun). We want parents and students to connect. Parents pro tip: let your student settle in, give them some space! Laptops are not allowed.
How do I get my welcome pack?
Welcome pack pdfs are emailed to the family immediately upon registration at our premier vet summer camp. Nothing is ever sent through the USPS snail mail. If you did not receive your welcome pack please email us at info@vetsummer.com and we will shoot one your way!
